Richard’s background is in the Automotive Industry having engaged in a seven year extended apprentice programme with Jaguar Cars and Rolls Royce.
Having been awarded a HNC and HND he then continued his studies at the University or Warwick, University of Surrey and Farnborough College of Technology.
Richard has worked in design and manufacturing specialising within engineering product design with the focus on interiors and fixings. This lead to the production of the first heated car seat to be designed, tested and manufactured in the UK.
Having spent time working in Sweden, Norway, Germany and Japan, he excels in leading teams, solution finding, negotiation and resource management. Richard has ably lead and built a professional technical services team who are all adaptable to the changing needs of the market, curriculum and students.
Of particular interest to Richard is the development of staff, providing opportunities, discovering potential where it may not first be seen, encouraging staff to progress and adapt as well as supporting staff as they build their own portfolio of experiences.
Richard has knowledge and input in other areas of university life including technical guidance, installation of exhibitions in the UK, Europe and Japan, resource planning of new and extended builds and broad experience in refurbishment.
Richard has held a number of roles during his 12 years at UCA, from Senior Technician, Technical Services Manager at the Farnham Campus, Technical Services Manager at both Epsom and Farnham Campuses, Operations Manager of Epsom and Farnham campuses, growing a staff team from 8 to the current 67 highly skilled technical team.
