Giuseppina (Jo) Sapia

Textiles Technician, UCA Farnham

Technical Staff,

Jo graduated from the University for the Creative Arts with a BA (Hons) 2:1 in Woven Textiles in 2010.

Soon after graduating Jo worked as a Museum Cataloguer at the Craft Study Centre here at the UCA. Her role included setting up exhibitions and cataloguing the textiles of Peter Collingwood, Amelia Uden, Makeba Lewis and Ann Richards.

Jo then worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Textiles Course Leader.

Over the last five years Jo has enjoyed working as a Learning Support Assistant and Learning Mentor supporting students with learning disabilities to achieve their degrees.

Being aware of how students learn in different ways has helped Jo support students in her other role as a Weave technician within the Textiles Department.

Jo is a designer maker of woven textiles producing scarves and home textiles. Inspired by architecture, surfaces, texture and colour her design process begins with a card winding. Using yarns such as merino, lamb’s wool and fine Pima cotton she creates a beautiful range of hand woven textiles.
