Jenny Hughes joined UCA Pre-degree as a permanent member of staff in 2005. She is currently 0.6 Senior Lecturer and Pathway Leader for Fashion/Textiles Pre-degree.
Jenny studied Textiles Design at Central Saint Martins and Nottingham Trent University followed by a postgraduate diploma in Textile Art at Goldsmiths College University of London.
She was awarded a British Council postgraduate scholarship to study textiles and costume at the Applied Arts Academy in Budapest and also spent time conducting postgraduate research at Danmarks Designskole in Copenhagen.
She has also worked as a visiting lecturer on BA (Hons) Fashion Design at UCA Rochester, BA (Hons) Textiles Design at Nottingham Trent University and Loughborough College of Art and Design and as a workshop leader for Deconstructed Fashion and Fashion Drawing for the National Portrait Gallery Young Peoples Programme.
She completed an MA Art and Design in Education from the Institute of Education University of London 2008
Thesis: Memory/Trace: an enquiry into the trace/memory as a creative stimulus both for personal studio practice and fashion and textiles students.
Jenny has exhibited her textiles at Premier Vision, Paris and at 100% Design London and continues to explore new ways of working within the textile medium. Based in London she has worked as a freelance textile designer, designing fabrics for fashion and interior clients such as Ralph Lauren, Jean Paul Gaultier, Jigsaw and Marks and Spencer.
Current work includes private commissions and the development of a range of digital print scarves and interior accessories.
