Jonathan Jarvis

Technician Tutor in Printmaking and Imaging, UCA Farnham

Jonathan has been printmaking since 1978 and has been employed as printmaking technician and related roles at UC Farnham from 1988 onwards.

Johnathan completed a Foundation Certificate City and Guilds of London Art School and a BA (Hons) Fine Art degree at Kingston Polytechnic.

Other training includes: water based silkscreen University West of England, Advanced stone lithography by Rudolf Broulim Master Printer, Antwerp. Letterpress at Mr Smiths Letterpress workshop London.

Johnathan supports stone and plate lithography direct and offset, photolitho, oil and water based silkscreen, etching, photoetching, wood and lino relief/surface printing, monoprinting, photomechanical/digital halftone screening processes, compositing and letterpress, photopolymer intaglio and relief processes, for Fine Art, Graphic Communication, Illustration courses, and teaches students on all levels of study - pre-degree, BA Hons and MA to PhD levels.

He was a committee member for four years. North Star Studios Printmaking Co-operative, Brighton and attended IMPACT Printmaking International Conferences at Tallin Estonia and Bristol.

In conjunction with bookRoom Research Cluster assisted in production of three artists books which were selected for inclusion into Kaleid 2014 artists books exhibition.

Johnathan has a special interest in European printmaking, ateliers, artists books, a strong belief in the validity of printmaking as a contemporary international art form and the exploration, practice and interdisciplinary development of printmaking.

Currently main personal medias are lithography, letterpress, and woodcuts.

He is a volunteer at Print Section Amberley Museum and Heritage Centre.
