Rochester Grad Show — in pictures

UCA’s Rochester Graduation Show was unveiled on 8th June with a private view. Our shows are one of the biggest events of the year in the UCA calendar, celebrating the achievements of our graduating students and showcasing some of the best work produced that year.

UCA’s class of 2017 welcomed their family, friends and industry contacts into the exhibition spaces around the campus.

Take a look at some of the highlights from the show — and a few students we managed to catch up with who were there on the night.

Reception: students from the BA (Hons) Photography course displayed work in the Zandra Rhodes Gallery in UCA Rochester’s main entrance.

“Here at UCA it’s so close-knit, you get tutor time that you don’t get at other places, staff are always approachable, the classes are smaller, it has the best of both worlds.

“It has the digital resources and production alongside the analogue side. It’s the fine line between mixing both elements; you take a 54 camera out or you can go get a Hasselblad.”

Tommy Dobson, BA (Hons) Photography

(5 images above) the Pre-Degree and Foundation courses had an incredible show at UCA Rochester this year, demonstrating extraordinary achievements in only one year of study, before many of them continue to undergraduate degrees.

“I love my tutors here, they are so supportive towards what I want to achieve. It’s been great, I’ve loved spending each day from 9–5 in the workshop, doing my own work at the same time as hanging out with my friends and I feel like that’s the ideal, that’s the dream.”
Eea Vatanen,
BA (Hons) Goldsmithing, Silversmithing, Jewellery

Attention to detail: the BA (Hons) Contemporary Jewellery and BA (Hons) Silversmithing, Goldsmithing and Jewellery share a space that shows the incredible detail and time that goes into every piece created.

“My project is about the lack of representation of disabilities in the fashion industry —it came about through my personal experiences. I’ll miss UCA; I’m thinking about coming back and doing my MBA here, after all, you can always come back!”
Henrietta Adams,
BA (Hons) Fashion Media & Promotion, nominated for New Media Award at Graduate Fashion Week

Staring into the abyss: Students display imaginative work on the BA (Hons) Design for Theatre, Film & Performance course.
