Alfie Stevens and Rosie Brown, both in the final year of their BA (Hons) Printed Fashion Textiles degree, will have their collections shown on the catwalk at Graduate Fashion Week (GFW) in June.

Alfie’s design focus is the number 13, which is also the title of the collection. He wore the number on the back of his football shirt as a child and his print explores this lifelong passion for football and how it can influence fashion without it being stereotypical. He used a mixture of his own photographs and drawings, which he applies to workwear-inspired garments.

He said: “I enjoy exploring themes that can be understood and interpreted by anyone and communicating a shared experience.”

“I was very surprised but grateful to have this opportunity, it’s cool to know that someone likes my work and is willing to print it for me.

Rosie’s design is called Fragmented Memories, inspired by memories of travel to places such as Venice, Milan, and the South of Spain.

“These are fragments of my life,” explained Rosie. “Fond memories which have crafted me into who I am today, exploring the idea of experiences creating a mosaic of who you are.”

Her print collection comes to life through colour, texture, and imagery: collected drawings, shells, stamps, tickets, and photographs and designed to “visually teleport” viewers to their favourite travel memory.

“Being chosen as a finalist has been the highlight of my university experience,” added Rosie. “I am most excited to represent myself as a designer at GFW and see my final collection come together down a runway in London!

“Textiles is all about creating something that reflects me and my experiences – designing fun to wear pieces that will put a smile on people’s faces.”

Alfie and Rosie’s design will be put into production by Kornit, providing the fabrics for their final graduate collections and shown at an exclusive Kornit Digital X GFW catwalk show during GFW.

Three finalists will then be selected to have their collection shown on the catwalk during GFW’s Best of Show on Thursday, 13 June.
