Job Summary

art-K is an art club for children and adults. It has developed a specialist art program that tutors art skills to create great pieces of art. art-K is a national organisation with clubs in places such as Tadworth, Ewell, Telford, and Worthing, and starting in places such as Truro and Birmingham. There are currently 13 art-K clubs either running or starting up, with many more planned this year. This is an exciting opportunity to run and manage the club in Dorking which is located in St. Martins Walk, and join a group of like minded individuals passionate about teaching art to the next generation of artists.

The successful applicant will be teaching the art-K program to children and adults and use their enthusiasm and passion for art to create an inspirational environment where children feel safe to explore and experiment with art. The candidate will be required to maintain the excellent level of education as taught in art-K network across England and to act as a brand ambassador for art-K and maximise profitability of the business by exploring new creative marketing techniques in order to recruit new pupils.

The need arises due to the success of art-K and expansion in Dorking, and the successful applicant will be given full training in the teaching and business techniques and be closely supported by the art-K team in Ashtead.

Responsibilities and Duties

Run excellent art classes for children and adults!

Ordering art materials from a list provided and required for the smooth running of the projects.

Marketing the art classes online using; social media; Google Adwords and listings on various websites (training and guidance will be provided).

Distribute hard copy leaflets in the local area, seeking out local businesses for mutual advertising and booking up stands at local fairs where art-K may exhibit.

Managing enquiries for the classes and delivering a high level of customer service ensuring you are up to date on all knowledge required to inform enquiring parents about the structure of the classes.

Being able to discuss progress of the students with parents; this requires knowledge of each individual student.

As the club expands recruiting and managing art assistants so that they are engaged with pupils. It is important that they feel motivated and supported.

Invoicing parents for the art classes punctually and precisely. Handling enquiries surrounding payments by following the process taught to you during the training.

Qualifications and Skills

An undergraduate art degree or a relevant degree associated with child development and a love of art.

Experience or at least aptitude and enjoyment of working with children is required.

Practical artistic skills across a range of media and techniques such as acrylics, watercolour, oil pastels, pastels, oils, clay, paper mache and paper sculpture.

Familiarity using computer software such as polite and succinct emails, and excel for day to day tasks.

Basic understanding of social media and willingness to learn new skills and carry out regular and inspiring posts to attract clients to the club.

Personality will require a desire to care deeply for children's artistic development and provide them with skills in a friendly and club-manner (not like school), is essential.

Training will be given and regular weekly support will be provided in the early months.


The Dorking club is in a prominent position in St.Martins Walk, which has huge footfall as is literally a few meters from M&S and provides an opportunity for an artist to use it as a studio while not teaching. It can also provide a window for sales of art work- subject to agreement. The lower salary range is significantly augmented by bonus for acquiring and retaining children to the higher end of the salary range. For the appropriate candidate this higher range will not be a chore but just be a result of the pleasure of teaching art to children and seeing them succeed and grow in confidence.
