Workshop description

A one day taster workshop for creatives who are open to an experimental way of making with a loose approach to their work. With the emphasis on enjoyment and play students will be working in an expressive way using heat transfer techniques to layer colour, marks and shapes that allows for their work to develop organically offering its own surprises along the way.

Materials

Fabric, dyes, transfer papers and tools are provided with an option to frame a finished piece of work. Students are encouraged to bring any favourite brushes and tools they have for mark making.

Kas Williams is an artist designer and maker with a profound love of colour. Describing herself as 'at heart an explorer' she has a playful and experimental approach to her work mixing materials with multiple techniques to create a visual vocabulary expressed in abstract works. Originally trained in the craft of textile printing her practice now embraces a wide spectrum of printing techniques, paper sculpture, digital design and photography. Kas graduated with a Masters Distinction in Textiles from the University for the Creative Arts and has since exhibited widely both in the U I< and Internationally. She works from her studio on the south coast creating limited editions and one-off pieces to commission as well as occasional ranges of furnishings and wearables under the label 'Collectables'

Student feedback

"Kas's class was like a door opening into a new experimental world for me as I work as a textile artist but in a tightly controlled way and find it hard to let go and let flow! Her clear explanations and demonstrations were so inspiring and enabling"

"Great class, well structured but relaxed and "nothing is wrong" ethos. It's always nice to leave with a finished piece and lots of ideas to carry forward"

"Such an enjoyable workshop with Kas as our kind guide and teacher. She encouraged us to be free in our approach, looking freshly for happenstance. Everyone created gorgeous abstract layers of colour and shape on the material whatever their level of artistic experience. Great fun and very liberating.
