Cara Wassenberg

Cara Wassenberg is a metalsmith, teacher, and sculptor. Although she is originally from a fine art background, during her career she has consistently developed her skills in metal working. Following an initial introductory year spent at Hereford College of Technology she learnt from craftspeople in Germany, the US and England. She is fascinated by the process and has more recently learnt more about the casting of glass. Her preferred sculptural materials are iron and copper.

Bio

Cara has a BA in Fine Art from Coventry University and an MA (distinction) from UCA Farnham. She has undertaken several competitive residencies, most recently with the glass artist Colin Reid and at Penland School of Craft in North Carolina. She is a self-employed artist, often making pieces to commission in her own workshop and has exhibited her sculpture extensively in solo and group shows in Europe and the USA. As well as her part-time tutor technician job at UCA she teaches several short courses at West Dean College, West Sussex, in sculpture, creative sheet metal forming and occasionally some traditional blacksmithing.

Alongside her studio work Cara enjoys writing and has had several metal-working related articles included in specialist magazines as well as the French publication FAIRE.

She lives near Petersfield with her family, but whenever possible tries to find her way to the edge of our island and is almost always inspired by all things coastal and aquatic.
