Bonnie Parks

Bonnie leads the English for Academic Purposes tutors in providing core and tailored support to our international students across all campuses. She works closely with Programme Directors and course lecturers in delivering subject-specific academic English sessions to help international students overcome the challenges they may face. She also delivers workshops such as English for Employability as well as coordinates International Student Welcome events at key points in the academic year.

Bio

Originally from Canada, Bonnie moved to the UK to study International Relations at Webster University and then Applied Linguistics at King’s College London. Bonnie has extensive experience teaching English to International graduates and undergraduates at various institutions such as Wimbledon School of English and the University of Surrey, where she also developed and implemented EAP courses for streamlined delivery with other pathway subjects. Bonnie later worked as Subject Lead and EAP Lecturer at LCCA accredited by UCA where she led and mentored a team of English lecturers to deliver English and Academic Skills modules across all courses and programmes.
 
Bonnie has held EFL and EAP programme management roles in different educational environments over the years, leading teams of EFL and EAP tutors in the design and delivery of a very wide range of highly rated English language courses, with an emphasis on providing high quality teaching and excellent student experience.
 
Bonnie has in-depth knowledge of language assessment, with over fifteen years’ experience working as a speaking and writing examiner for Cambridge English and over twenty years’ experience preparing international students for these exams.

Research statement

A keen linguist, she has particular expertise in the area of second language acquisition, an interest in language assessment, course and syllabus design, and academic literacies.
 
Bonnie is currently concentrating on the HEA Senior Fellowship application with a focus on best academic practice and best professional practice from a leadership perspective.
