The film premiere of PICTURE THIS where Professor Anna Fox, an internationally renowned photographer and university lecturer, introduces us to three groups of women from refugee and migrant communities and a women’s refuge as they learn to use photography to reinterpret their experiences and create moving photographic images.

PICTURE THIS is a heartwarming portrait of three groups of women – in Edinburgh, Farnham and London. The women are from refugee and migrant communities and a women’s refuge, they have all had to leave their own countries or homes because of war, sexuality or to escape abusive relationships.

Professor Anna Fox, an internationally renowned photographer and university lecturer, introduces us to the different participants as they receive inspirational training while they learn to use photography to reinterpret their experiences and to create moving photographic images. Through a series of industry visits, industry partners and visiting lectures Anna introduces the women to aspects of the industry with the aim of helping them develop future careers in and knowledge about the photographic industries.

PICTURE THIS, is an output of Putting Ourselves in The Picture – Part 2 Engaging with Industry which was led in partnership with five organisations: Women for Refugee Women and Autograph in London, Creative Response in Farnham, National Galleries of Scotland in Edinburgh and Work Show Grow online.

It was supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, University for the Creative Arts and all our partners.

There will be a Q&A after the screening with: Director of Fast Forward Professor Anna Fox; Jane Pavitt, UCA Director of Research, Knowledge, Exchange and Innovation; and project participants from Creative Response – Natalia Sharamova and Maria Borosova. We will be launching the book Putting Ourselves in the Picture 2 at this event after the screening.
