Organised by Professors of Architecture Charles Holland and Cat Rossi, the Spring 2024-2025 BEAUTY Multistory salon brought together five fantastic architecture and design researchers and professionals: Janice Li, Liza Fior (Muf), Michael Marriot and Smith & Taylor Architects.
BEAUTY was chosen as the salon theme because it is a subject at the heart of what creative practitioners do and yet somehow also marginal and treated with a degree of suspicion. As the American writer and critic Jennifer Bloomer has put it: “Beauty has become a dirty word.”
Multistory is the long-standing public programme organised by the School of Architecture and Design (CSAD), and which sits at the intersection of its research, knowledge exchange, and teaching activities. We seek to mobilise Multistory to position UCA at the centre of contemporary debates on architecture and design in the UK and internationally. Since 2022 the programme has been convened by Professors of Architecture Charles Holland and Cat Rossi.
