Bio

Roderick is an Associate Professor in Emerging Technologies, Programme Director for Creative Technology, and Industry Lead for Expanded Screen at the School for Creative and Cultural Industries. His work sits at the intersection of creative practice, emerging technologies, and research, with a focus on XR, AI, immersive media, and creative computing.

At UCA, he lead the development of a cross-disciplinary Creative Technology ecosystem that brings together Computer Science, Digital Arts, and immersive media. His teaching and leadership emphasise experiential learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and real-world application. He designs learning environments that integrate technical and creative skills, encouraging students to engage with complex challenges through experimentation, championing the idea of fast failure to enable long term success.

Alongside his academic role, he works closely with industry partners to develop research and innovation projects across wellbeing, accessibility, and live experience delivery. He is particularly interested in how emerging technologies can support inclusive and accessible creative practice. His research explores how artists and audiences engage with immersive systems, learning from the established practices of theme park design, to enable the next generation of LBEs.
