Dr Rebecca Court

Dr Rebecca Court is a senior academic leader whose work brings together creative practice, pedagogic research and institutional transformation. Her research and teaching focus on co-relational practice, collaborative working and the relationship between creative process, agency and education. She was awarded her Associate Professorship at Birmingham City University in 2021.

Bio

Joining the University for the Creative Arts in 2023, Rebecca works with the University Executive and Programme Directors to oversee academic quality, curriculum development and student success. She leads UCA's Workload Allocation Model and university-wide curriculum redesign, including the development of the Creative Learning Framework.

Rebecca is Associate Dean for the Farnham School of Creative and Cultural Industries at the University for the Creative Arts. She works closely with colleagues across the institution to support collaborative ways of working and a shared focus on inclusive, interdisciplinary and future-focused education.

Before joining UCA, Rebecca held senior academic leadership roles at Birmingham City University, including Head of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies and Programme Director for Fine Art within the School of Art. She later moved into a cross-faculty role as Associate Professor, contributing to academic portfolio development, external partnerships and marketing and recruitment activity across Schools.

Rebecca has a BA (Hons) Fine Art from Norwich University of the Arts and an MA Photography from the Royal College of Art. She completed her practice-based PhD at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, in 2023. Her doctoral research, Agents, Objects and the Art Exhibition Space: Towards the Co-Relational, Co-Formation of Things, examined the interdependent relationships between people, materials and environments during the event of the exhibition.

Alongside her academic and leadership work, Rebecca continues to develop a multidisciplinary creative and curatorial practice spanning sculpture, photography, performance and installation. Her research interests focus on co-relational processes, shared authorship and systems of interdependence and these concerns directly inform her teaching, supervision and pedagogic research.

Rebecca is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE and contributes to the wider creative arts and higher education sector as an External Examiner in Fine Art, Trustee of New Ashgate Gallery, Steering Group member for the National Association for Fine Art Education (NAFAE) and contributor to the UK Quality Code Advice and Guidance writing group.
