PhD Student Conference

This one-day conference aims to connect UCA researchers, supervisors and guests to reflect on the different ways in which academic research is a journey; with various pit-stops, roadblocks, landmarks, detours and destinations. Academic research is a never-ending journey of discovery.

The 2024 organising committee invites papers, presentations and practice-based contributions from students and early career researchers at UCA (and related communities) in response to the conference theme Discovery: Journey and Destination.

We are calling for applications that explore the role of discovery within the research process and to celebrate our ambitious research community. Discovery – as an outcome, or part of the process – plays an integral role within research projects. Participants are invited to articulate  how this operates within different contexts; in practice, theory, or across different disciplines.

Call for Participation

To facilitate the experimental and interdisciplinary interests of our community, applications for participation are invited in three categories:

  • 10-15 minute paper
  • 5 minute lightning talks
  • Show and Tell / Artefact / Performance / Practice

To facilitate the organic exchange of ideas, this will be an in-person conference that provides ample opportunity for informal discussions. We ask that applicants apply with the intention to attend in person where possible. However, for the sake of inclusivity and with respect to the international nature of our community we are also inviting submissions for recorded content that can be presented on the day and in the lead up to the conference. We request that recorded content be submitted with reference to the three categories of engagement listed above.

We encourage participation across all stages of research, schools and disciplines. Please submit your expression of interest with a 100-200 word abstract, and up to three images/ films.
