Bio

My PhD title:

Fashion Exhibition and Digital Media: Reviving the designer’s intentions

My PhD summary:

Coming from a multidisciplinary background, and after being exposed to the fashion industry for years, I wanted to combine my strengths in the understanding of space as well as fashion and style and cultural and media studies. This led me to pursue my PhD research within the field of curation and bring together all my previous experiences. The inspiration behind this project and what sparked the idea for this research is the Alexander McQueen show ‘Widows of Culloden’ and more specifically the famous Kate Moss hologram, allowing viewers to experience fashion in diverse ways.

With this project, I want to not only explore how digital technologies like AR/VR, Fashion Film and Holograms are used within fashion exhibitions but also how these mediums can help bring the loving body into the exhibition space. Doing so, will allow new and diverse narratives to be portrayed within the museum and paint dress history not only through the lens of culture (the life of a piece of clothing after its release to the public, determined by who wore it, what it symbolised etc.) but also allow for the designer’s intentions (concept, inspiration, stylistic choices) to be shown and understood by the public.

One of my previous projects was a blueprint on how the concept of defamiliarization by Viktor Shklovsky applies to media fashion advertising campaigns, and how this technique has been used in several ways to impact the way society experiences fashion.
