Event details

  • 18 May 2026 - 18 May 2026

    19:00-21:00 (BST)

Spencer Cricket Club, Earlsfield, London SW18 3HF

Climate change is already impacting on cricket through, for example, rising temperatures and air pollution impacting on player’s health in South-East Asia. In addition, the flooding of grounds is disrupting the operation of both professional and recreational clubs. There is significant waste in cricket gear and clothing, and reuse, refurbishment and reuse are happening at piecemeal level.

The Circular Cricket Gear (CCG) Hub will be launched at the event, following testing throughout 2025, building on lessons learned from Circular Cricket Gear (CCG) Hub and Cricket Gear Reuse projects. CCG Hub is located at Spencer Cricket Club (SCC) and collects and distributes used cricket gear and clothing targeting state schools, and disadvantaged and cash strapped families and individuals as part of the Spencer ONE community development initiative. The Hub is a partnership between SCC and The Centre for Sustainable Design® at UCA.

The event is a part of the 2C project that is progressing circularity in cricket in Wandsworth. The project focuses on extending the life of cricket equipment through place-based reuse and repair systems, transforming underutilised gear into accessible resources for players who would otherwise face barriers to participation. Using Wandsworth as a case study, the 2C project will develop a replicable framework to evaluate local social impacts of cricket reuse and repair initiatives.

The event will help participants:

  • Climate, circularity and cricket: to raise awareness and increase understanding of climate change and circular economy as they impact on cricket through presentation, examples and discussion
  • Circular Cricket Gear (CCG) Hub: to explain how the Hub operates and introduce the website and dashboard

This event will be of interest to those engaged in sustainability, climate change, circular economy and cricket and other sports. This will include recreational and professional cricket players, club chairs, head of sport at schools, directors of academies, cricket administrators and researchers.
