Richard Vidgen

Bio

Richard Vidgen is Emeritus Professor of Business Analytics at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Business School and Emeritus Professor of Systems Thinking at the University of Hull Business School. From 2017, he was Professor of Business Analytics at the School of Business, Economics and Informatics, Birkbeck, University of London where he was part of the planning and delivery team for the new Birkbeck-Central St Martins MBA, which is a ground-breaking collaboration between a business school and a college of art.

His research in recent years has focused business analytics, data science, and the ethics of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, as documented on his blog, http://datasciencebusiness.wordpress.com. He is a member of Ethical AI Advisory and a founder member of SurvivAI. His publications can be viewed on Google Scholar.

As a member of the Operational Research Society’s Analytics Development Group he has been part of the organisation of the annual Analytics Summit and has led the establishment of a new journal, The Journal of Business Analytics, where he is now joint editor-in-chief.

In his role of Visiting Professor at the University for the Creative Arts, Professor Vidgen is keen to continue researching into the implications of AI for individuals, organisations, and society. In particular, he is interested in the impact of AI on the creative economy.
