Camille Serisier

Bio

Since 2023, Camille has been completing a PhD studentship as part of Fast Forward: Women in Photography supervised by Professor Anna Fox, Professor Jean Wainwright, and Dr James Hyman. Her research focuses on designing inclusive methodologies for feminist visual storytelling that include drawing, performance and photography. As part of this work Camille has been designing creating forms of positionality and reflexivity, as well as transformational validity. This work builds on her extensive experience as a practicing artist who has created projects internationally.

During her doctoral research, Camille has contributed to the University community in numerous ways. In 2024 she established the PhD student committee which represents cohort interests on relevant university forums, organises the annual PhD student conference, and arranges social events. In 2025 she was the inaugural Archival Research Fellow as part of a Knowledge Exchange partnership between UCA and the Peter Marlow Foundation. During 2026 she has been representing UCA as a British Fellow at the Venice Biennale where she is conducting an ambitious participatory art project.

Her knowledge and experience of participatory and creative forms of practice and methods mean Camille is well equipped to develop and support research projects across the humanities, social sciences, and creative arts. Since 2024 Camille has been an Affiliated Researcher at the University of Kent where she contributes to projects at the Centre for Global Science and Epistemic Justice. At UCA she works with Professor Victoria Kelley and Dr Rachael Johnson on Stall Tales: London’s Street Markets Past, Present, Future, which has received support from the AHRC Innovation Acceleration Account, Lewisham City Council, and the National Archives.

Camille’s research skills are underpinned by her professional experience in the museum and gallery sector working in collections and curatorial roles. She has worked in commercial galleries, private art advisory, and national institutions including Uplands Gallery (Australia), Amanda Love Art (Australia), Griffith University Art Museum (Australia), the Museum of Australian Democracy (Australia), and the Smithsonian Museum of American Art (USA).

Camille is an experienced educator who has worked in Higher and Further Education in Australia and the UK. She is an Associate Fellow of the British Higher Education Academy who teaches into undergraduate and postgraduate modules at UCA across Pre-Masters, Photography, Fine Art, Body Art, and Visual Communications. Camille’s knowledge of participatory and creative methods and practice inform her innovative and student-oriented approach to teaching.
