Marion Wilks is responsible for ensuring that the University operates within its prescribed constitutional and legal framework. As Clerk to the Board of Governors she provides support and advice to Board members.
Marion ensures that the Board's business, together with that of its committees, is properly conducted and that decisions are taken soundly and with regard to due process. As University Secretary she advises the Vice-Chancellor, Leadership Team and other members of the University on appropriate legal and compliance matters
Marion began her career in library services and held posts at Chelsea and St Martins Schools of Art and the Regional Curriculum Base before moving to the West Surrey College of Art & Design as College Librarian. Subsequent roles as Head of Academic Services and Head of Quality & Standards gave her experience of a wide range of academic support services and led to her appointment both as QAA Auditor and British Quality Foundation Assessor.
A Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Marion is interested in teaching and learning in art and design and, particularly, in resource-based learning. She has served on a number of JISC Committees, the Subject Centre for Art, Design and Media Steering Group and has directed HEFCE funded projects promoting the use of technology in teaching and research.
Nowadays, though, Marion's expertise lies in University governance and the constitutional frameworks that regulate the University's activities. She is currently a member of the Association of Heads of University Administration and the GuildHE Governance Network.
Originally a classics graduate, Marion finds her work still makes use of a Latin phrase now and again. She also holds an MA in Library & Information Studies from UCL and an MBA from the London Business School.
