Our MA Creative Marketing & Advertising course offers those with wider business knowledge the opportunity to focus on marketing, communication, PR and advertising within the fast-growing creative industries. 

Studying MA Creative Marketing & Advertising at postgraduate level will allow you to further develop and refine your existing skills and critical insight into the professional, theoretical and practical world of creative promotion. Supported by teaching professionals and working alongside other practitioners, you will be able to collaborate with other Creative Business and Media postgraduate students to enrich your learning experience.

Our teaching programmes are all project based, combining knowledge from both business and the creative industries in order to produce well-rounded, highly employable graduates with a highly-regarded qualification.

MA Creative Marketing & Advertising is a one-year postgraduate degree within UCA’s Creative Business and Media portfolio. Held at our Epsom campus, you will develop an in depth understanding of the environments, practices and theory and contextual research specific to contemporary creative marketing and advertising.

Your learning programme will consist of seminars, tutorials and practical workshops with a strong emphasis on independent research. At the start of the course, you can also benefit from collaborative group work with fellow postgraduate students on our MA Creative Business Management degree.

In order to develop lifelong professional skills that relate to your career aspirations, you will undertake your own exploration of creative advertising and marketing practice, investigating creative ideas and developing practical solutions to complex industry related problems.

You will progress onto a final Marketing & Advertising project unique to your area of interest within the creative industries. On completion of the course, you will have an internationally recognised qualification, giving you the potential to work at a high level within the marketing, PR and advertising industries.

  • Term 1

    The Business Lecture Series
    This unit allows you to explore contemporary business practices central to today's global creative industry. It will allow you to build a portfolio of knowledge pertinent to your chosen area of business. You will be introduced to a series of successful business professionals who will not only inspire you creatively but also educate you on the realities of industry practice. 

    Creative Thinking
    This unit introduces you to definitions and concepts of creativity. It allows you to explore what creativity is and reflect methods of creativity with concepts of taste, consumer need as well as user interface. Throughout this unit you will be required to implement creative processes using various techniques connected with the development of creative skills.

    Entrepreneurship & Innovation
    In this unit you will explore further the relationships between creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. You will also have opportunities to develop an understanding of how opportunities are identified, and how they are made feasible by implementing a business plan to make it viable and realised in professional creative practice.

  • Term 2

    Advertising Account Management
    In this unit, you will work on a live client project in order to test your current skill base and enable you to begin to identify with the dynamics of account management within the fast paced advertising environment. You will participate in and observe professional advertising practice within a live business environment. Throughout this project, you will be expected to understand the professional working environment which is crucial for developing the knowledge and core skills in order to contribute effectively in industry.

    Digital Comms and Strategy
    In this unit you will develop your understanding of the use of integrated marketing communication to build and sustain brands, based on knowledge of how communication works, the institutions which participate in the process, and the practical business processes necessary to achieve and measure defined communication goals.

  • Term 3

    Ideas Development and Marketing and Communications Proposal
    This unit will focus on practice in which you will define and develop individual concepts for creative marketing proposals. Research and practice will be directed and guided by a project proposal in which you negotiate and review your marketing practice with tutors. On completion of this unit, you should have established a series of research ‘propositions’.

    Final Marketing and Advertising Project
    The Final Marketing and Advertising Project unit is the culmination of your studies and will form a framework for the central ideas and concepts developed throughout your MA. The outcome will demonstrate evidence of advanced conceptual, theoretical and technical capability over an extended period of self-directed study.

The MA courses at UCA Epsom share a baseroom with networked computer facilities and you also have access to our extensive range of campus facilities, including: print studios with extensive screen printing facilities, photography studios, 3D workshops, media store for borrowing film and photography equipment. There is also a modern library with a wealth of books, journals, special collections and online resources.

UK entry requirements

  • A good honours degree (normally 2.1 or above) or equivalent qualification in your chosen subject or a related discipline

and/or

  • Relevant work experience, demonstrating your ability to study at postgraduate level.

Consideration will also be given to applicants who present a degree with a lower classification, but can make a strong case for admission in relation to a particular project and can demonstrate their potential to satisfactorily complete the course.
