Stage 1
We have built in a range of delivered classes, study skills and support within these units to give you the confidence to thrive in a new academic environment in the UK.
Exploring Practices: Process, Materials and Techniques
This unit has been designed to help you explore and think about specialist areas of study and to develop key skills in investigation, recording and exploration within Art, Design and Media. You will engage in a series of projects that have been structured to give you a detailed diagnostic introduction to a range of core generic art, design and media concepts and practical working approaches. The projects have specific themes and subject areas, but they also require your personal interpretation and outcome.English for Academic Purposes, Research and Study Skills
We have designed this unit to run throughout the whole course to support the natural and incremental development of all of these skills. We understand that they take time to master and that their integration is not a natural practice for internationally educated students. Central to this unit will be your research file and the course blog, which will form the foundations of recording, analysing and reflecting on ideas and methods in art and design practice. Alongside this you will learn how to write project proposals, an academic essay, give a research presentation and develop you listening and reading skills. -
Stage 2
Investigating Specialist Practice
We have designed this unit to build upon the knowledge, skills and practices that you will have developed in Exploring Practices: Process, Materials and Techniques. This unit gives you the chance to focus on your chosen specialist practice in the creative arts by exploring the practices that you have decided upon in greater depth. This will allow you to confirm your area of specialisation. In this unit, we will introduce you to the core principles, skills and tools of your specialist area. You will investigate, analyse and evaluate media, processes and techniques relevant to your specialist area in greater depth, with recording continuing to be a key foundation.English for Academic Purposes, Research and Study Skills

Stage 3
Final Major Project
At the beginning of this unit (final major project) you will develop a written project proposal and time plan. This proposal will reflect on your progress and achievement to date in the course, define your project concept, explain your methodology and list your supporting research and references. After this you will undertake relevant contextual research, develop your ideas and investigate materials and advanced processes. This will lead to the realisation of your final body of work. This unit and the course will be completed with a final professional exhibition of your specialist practice confirmation work.English for Academic Purposes, Research and Study Skills
