Graduate Professional Development Programme

UCA Graduate
Professional Development Programme

12 September – 7 October 2022

After the launch of the UCA Graduate Professional Development Programme in 2019, we are pleased to say that it is now in its fourth year!

The programme is here to support with and prepare UCA graduates for finding a role in the creative industries. This paid 4 week opportunity (20 hours per week) offers a platform for you to gain industry and employability skills, develop your networks and explore career possibilities. Placements run 12 September – 7 October 2022 and are based at each of our campuses, the advertised roles focus on providing work experience that employers are looking for when selecting candidates.

Through this programme, you will also receive support from our expert team of careers and professional practice advisors. You will develop personal strategies and be given tools to develop and implement a career plan tailored to your needs and interests. You will also be equipped with the concrete skills necessary to take control of the development of your professional practice, including:

  • Designing an effective C.V. and cover letter
  • Networking and presenting yourself with confidence
  • Responding to recruiters’ needs

After the programme, the Careers and Professional Practice team will remain available to help you: search for suitable opportunities, draft job applications, practice for job interviews and achieve your creative goals.

To be eligible for the programme, you must be a UCA student who has fully completed their studies at the time of starting the programme and is due to graduate in 2022. We would particularly like to encourage you to apply if you meet any of the following criteria:

  • I studied at UCA as a mature student (I was 21 or over when I started my course)
  • I have studied at university without parental support (I have experience of being in care or am estranged from my family)
  • I have children
  • I lived at home and commuted to university while I studied
  • I have cared (unpaid) for a family member during my studies
  • I am the first generation in my family to go to University (my parents did not go to University or they went as a mature student)
  • I have a specific learning difference or disability
  • I identify as being from an under-represented ethnic background

If you do not meet any of the listed criteria please do still apply and indicate on the upcoming application form why you feel you would benefit from taking part.

We are really looking forward to welcoming UCA Graduates onto the Programme in 2022. Here is some feedback that we received from last year’s programme:

It has boosted my confidence in writing and communicating with others, which I otherwise struggle with.”

It has made me more confident that I have chosen the right career path for me.”

It’s a great way to gain experience without having to push yourself too far out of your comfort zone.”

Above all else my confidence has increased massively.”
