UCA Graduate 12 September –

After the launch of the UCA Graduate Professional Development Programme in 2019, we are pleased to say that it is now in its fourth year!
The programme is here to support with and prepare UCA graduates for finding a role in the creative industries. This paid 4 week opportunity (20 hours per week) offers a platform for you to gain industry and employability skills, develop your networks and explore career possibilities. Placements run 12 September – 7 October 2022 and are based at each of our campuses, the advertised roles focus on providing work experience that employers are looking for when selecting candidates.
Through this programme, you will also receive support from our expert team of careers and professional practice advisors. You will develop personal strategies and be given tools to develop and implement a career plan tailored to your needs and interests. You will also be equipped with the concrete skills necessary to take control of the development of your professional practice, including:
- Designing an effective C.V. and cover letter
- Networking and presenting yourself with confidence
- Responding to recruiters’ needs
After the programme, the Careers and Professional Practice team will remain available to help you: search for suitable opportunities, draft job applications, practice for job interviews and achieve your creative goals.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the programme, you must be a UCA student who has fully completed their studies at the time of starting the programme, is due to graduate at UCA in 2022/has graduated at UCA in 2022.* We would particularly like to encourage you to apply if you meet any of the following criteria:
- I studied at UCA as a mature student (I was 21 or over when I started my course)
- I have studied at university without parental support (I have experience of being in care or am estranged from my family)
- I have children
- I lived at home and commuted to university while I studied
- I have cared (unpaid) for a family member during my studies
- I am the first generation in my family to go to University (my parents did not go to University or they went as a mature student)
- I have a specific learning difference or disability
- I identify as being from an under-represented ethnic background
If you do not meet any of the criteria specified in the listed bullet points, you are still eligible. Please do apply and indicate on the application form why you feel you would benefit from taking part.
* If however you have an application in progress for further study at UCA or have accepted a place on a course at UCA starting in 2022/23, you are unfortunately not eligible for the programme and will be offered the opportunity to apply for the Graduate Professional Development Programme upon completion of your intended further study at UCA.

For each role, please note the campus that the relevant role is based at. Primarily, the roles will take place during working hours Monday-Friday for the duration of the placement. If there is any specific information about any variation in how the hours might be structured, this will be listed underneath the role bullet points.

One placement, campus based role at UCA Farnham:
Project Assistant
- Providing support to the estates department for the delivery of projects associated with Transformation 2024.
- Projects relate to alterations and upgrades to buildings and planning for new construction projects.
- Undertaking administrative tasks, including attending meetings and taking notes of meetings.
- Assisting with project planning and co-ordination of scheduled construction activities and managing communication with stakeholders.
- Contributing to space planning and furniture layouts.
- This role will be well suited to graduates of architecture/interior architecture.
One placement, campus based role at UCA Farnham:
Apprentice Technician (Virtual Production, Motion Capture and Computer Games)
- Learning and supporting the implementation of new VP and MC resources.
- Supporting the installation and configuration of new computer games equipment.
- Providing assistance, explanation, and support to students.
- Assisting in the development, implementation and testing of workflows.
- Supporting academic and technical practice.
One placement, campus based role at UCA Farnham:
Technology Researcher (Editing, Post-Production and Visual Effects)
- Reviewing and reporting on the facilities of competitor institutions.
- Researching new and emerging technologies.
- Liaising with suppliers.
- Providing advice, reports, options analysis, and recommendations.
One placement, campus based role at UCA Rochester:
Apprentice Technician (Fashion)
- Assisting in collating digital copies of final year students work for records.
- Helping to prepare screens for student work.
- Assisting in the finishing process of the textiles digital print.
- Assisting with the stock in the Fashion shop.
- Assisting with the selling in the Fashion shop.
- Working with the Technical tutors ensuring that the block library is up to date, and fully stocked (managed).
One placement, campus based role at UCA Farnham:
Marketing and Design Assistant
- Drafting customer emails using our CRM system.
- Drafting messaging for paid social campaigns.
- Logging and responding to new graphic design requests.
- Carrying out design amends/design layout tasks, supporting with admin work and sourcing quotes.
One placement, campus based role at UCA Farnham:
Web & Digital Media Assistant
- Uploading and managing marketing assets within our media library, including tagging, ordering and general support of media items.
- Working with the Web Team, support on research activities to gain insights into student user experiences including focus groups and surveys, and to report on findings.
- Supporting the Digital Media Production Team with planning and on-day video shoot activities for university videos/films.
- Supporting the CRM Team with data migration, data cleansing and adhoc requests to support the launch of a new CRM system.
One placement, campus based role at UCA Farnham:
Social Media Assistant
- Covering university events taking photos and short form videos.
- Conceptualising and creating videos for TikTok and IG reels.
- Interviewing students and staff at UCA for social media features and stories.
- Writing content to potentially include social posts, blogs, news stories.
- Creating eye-catching visial content for social media including FB, IG, LI, and TikTok.
One placement, campus based role at UCA Farnham (with possible travel to other campuses):
Events Assistant
- Supporting the events team in the planning and delivery of UCA Open Days across all campuses.
- Assisting with the event organisation, including liaising with colleagues and suppliers, ordering materials and taking close care of the aesthetics.
- Using excellent attention to detail assist the events team to produce event documentation for internal and external use.
- Helping in the running of the event on the day at one of the campuses (Saturday 24 September).
- Collate post event feedback.
This role will require availability on Saturday 24th September.
One placement, campus based role at UCA Rochester (with possible travel to other campuses):
Outreach Support Officer
- Organising events/activities (assisting with any in the calendar).
- Liaising with external stakeholders.
- Maintaining and organising equipment and resources.
- Supporting with administration.
- This role is focused on widening participation to Higher Education and Creative Industries.
One placement, campus based role at UCA Farnham:
UCA Archives and Special Collections Project Officer
- Assisting the Archivist in the management of the Special Collections, by appraising and organising the bookRoom Collection.
- Supporting the digitisation of Special Collections, working to specific guidelines; to capture, describe, and preserve digitised material.
- Assisting in researching and curating an exhibition on Art and Activism, based on the UCA Special Collections and Archive material.
- Assisting in the day-to-day frontline operation of the Digitisation Service, by supporting students and staff using equipment and digitisation processes.
- This post would suit someone who has an interest in the management of information, who is methodical, organised, and has a strong attention to detail.

Social Media Support
- Updating social media calendar
- Planning and scheduling posts
- Maintaining social media channels and creating content with team support
- Examining user experience
One placement, campus based role at UCA Farnham:
Alumni Support
- Researching UCA Alumni who are succeeding in their chosen industry with a view to building relationships and identifying those who may have an interest in sharing their experiences with Careers & Professional Practice audiences.
- Researching companies founded by UCA Alumni and companies that have employed UCA Alumni, summarising their activities and identifying potential leads for placements and internships.
- Creating and developing a database of contacts that the Careers & Professional Practice team can access to identify potential avenues for collaboration.
One placement, campus based role at UCA Farnham:
Event Aesthetics & Production
- Researching into different ideas and approaches to event theming and production.
- Creating a plan for uses of props and production to enhance themed events such as Freshers Ball, 80s Night, Grime Event.
- Making and preparing event materials, both pre-event and on location.
- Working with student volunteers to help achieve any larger scale ideas.
This role includes evening and weekend work. Structure of hours across the placement are flexible and to be discussed with the line manager for the role.
Three roles available in total, one campus based role at each campus (Canterbury, Epsom and Rochester):
Event and Engagement Activator
- Creating content for Freshers events, such as Quizzes / Games Nights
- Engaging with current students to generate interest in the events
- Working with local suppliers and performers for Live Music events
- Assisting with Delivery of the events on location
This role includes evening and weekend work. Structure of hours across the placement are flexible and to be discussed with the line manager for the role.
Two placements, campus based roles at UCA Farnham:
Digital Media Assistant (ISEA International)
- Promoting ISEA International across a range of social media platforms.
- Creatively engaging with the archive and sharing this via HQ social media platforms.
- Turning existing logos and branding into SVGs.
- Linking with previous symposium platforms and rebuilding online presence.
- Proposing new ways of presenting the archive and the organization online.
- Making a showreel from available video materials.
- Engaging with previous artists and promoting their work from symposium proceedings.
- Desirable for the role: Experience and grasp of Adobe CC (Premiere, Illustrator, Photoshop, AE and InDesign) Slack/Discord, Instagram Curation, Editing Skills, general file management and organisational skills
One placement, campus based role at UCA Farnham:
Fine Art Blackbox Coordinator
- Organising and promoting Blackbox across a range of social media platforms.
- Coordinating, collating and selecting roles with line manager from the student applications to join and manage BlackBox.
- Making good the internal and external space and surrounding site for forthcoming season of shows.
- Collating the open call responses and working with line manager and subsequent student team in the selection of projects to take forward and realise.
- Supporting and directing the student BlackBox team in the selection, install and promotion of the Term 1 programme of BlackBox.
One placement, campus based role at UCA Epsom:
Picture Editor
We are seeking a dynamic graduate picture editor to join the Fashion Image cluster to help launch & maintain a new digital (and print) zine. Your extensive knowledge of the global fashion photography industry coupled with a strong knowledge of the key emerging developments are essential to the role. We welcome applications from those with knowledge and interest in:

Stylist
We are seeking a dynamic graduate stylist to join the Fashion Image cluster to help launch & maintain a new digital (and print) zine. Your extensive knowledge of the global fashion photography industry coupled with a strong knowledge of the key emerging developments are essential to the role. We welcome applications from those with knowledge and interest in:
- Fashion Photography

- Shoot production and creative direction

One placement, campus based role at UCA Epsom:
Journalist
We are seeking a dynamic graduate fashion journalist to join the Fashion Image cluster to help launch & maintain a new digital (and print) zine. Your extensive knowledge of the global fashion photography industry coupled with a strong knowledge of the key emerging developments are essential to the role. We welcome applications from those with knowledge and interest in:
- Writing for Fashion/history and contexts of fasion as image
- Body politics
- Contemporary cultural issues related to fashion
- Language & experimental writing styles
- Being able to commission other writers
- Proof reading & editorial control
