I was attracted to Milan because, like London, it is a major fashion city, and I also love the Italian food and language. While I was there I had the opportunity to visit other places like Lake Como, which was only an hour away by the train. It was beautiful when it got warm and it was lovely to lay by the pool and on the small beach by the lake. I fell in love with Como; I just wish I had the chance to see George Clooney! I also got the chance to visit Venice – I got the train there which is more pricey but I had never been before and I had a great time, it was like a film!
Milan itself was also beautiful – the Duomo (Cathedral) amazed me. The city was a lot smaller than I had excepted but there was still so much to do. Aprevito is one thing I loved about Milan – this is basically a small meal you have before you go for your main meal in the evening. It costs about €10 and you get a cocktail of your choice and a buffet. Navili was my favourite part of Milan – surrounding a small lake that canals ran into, it was lovely to sit with friends in the evening.
When I arrived at NABA I loved the buildings and the course was great. I was able to do different classes that I wouldn't be able to do back home like, Photography where I made a book about the flat I stayed in – it was beautiful even though I was on the top floor and with no lift so I had to walk up 112 stairs every day. I found the flat on Air BnB and the guy who owns it was really nice. It turned out he was a teacher at NABA. I also studied Illustration, Accessories Design where I made a bag out of hair, and Anthropology which was taught by a famous model who was a true inspiration. I also studied Fashion Design which I study at UCA and made two outfits inspired by the Duomo.
Altogether I loved my time in Italy. I did miss my family, friends and boyfriend but it was so easy to keep in contact – I sent postcards and my mum even sent food parcels out to me! It truly was a home away from home. I also made some great friends, one of whom will be my friend for life.
