Professor Will Alsop 1947-2018
British architect, Stirling Prize winner, and professor of architecture died unexpectedly on May 12 at the age of 70.
A prominent architect and founder of the architecture and design practice ALL Design, Professor Alsop was known for his work on large-scale urban planning and design initiatives. A leading authority in his field, he was elected to the Royal Academy of Arts in 2000, made an OBE in 2001, and for many years he was a columnist for The Architect’s Journal.
In September 2013, Professor Alsop joined UCA as Professor of Architecture, where he was known for being a generous teacher and critic, as well as an enthusiast and advocate for experimentation and invention. He enjoyed working with students and was unfailingly good company. An inspiring presence, he will be greatly missed by the UCA community and beyond.
"A combination of practice, teaching and painting provide evidence of my interest in the ‘process’ of designing." Prof Will Alsop OBE RA.
