Mandy Fairbrother is one of our technical tutors on the BA (Hons) Fashion course, who works closely with students to support their technical development across all three years.
She is mainly responsible for the Year Two technical delivery, working across tailoring, drape, contour and jersey units of study. She is a committed member of the fashion team and enjoys mentoring all students to ensure their skills are developed to their highest potential.
Mandy has extensive industry experience as a self-employed designer/maker, working closely with numerous stylists within the music industry. Dating back to the early 90s she has designed and manufactured 'one off' bespoke pieces for individual artists and bands mainly for their promotional work, videos and tours.
Her clients have included Kylie Minogue, George Michael, Paul Weller, Bee Gees, Boyzone, Ronan Keating and Joey Tempest. She worked extensively in producing clothes for the Rolling Stones Tours; Bridges to Babylon and Voodoo Lounge.
Whilst working with designer Joe Casley-Hayford as studio assistant from 1992-95 she was also responsible for producing the wardrobe for U2’s world tour
Mandy Fairbrother then set up her own business successfully designing and producing a womenswear label, alongside freelance work for Gucci, advertising agencies and individual clients.
This vast background and experience in garment construction led Mandy into education and she has now been working at the UCA since 2006.
Mandy has been fortunate enough to develop her skills further through a range of staff development opportunities, completing various short courses at Central St. Martins including Couture Tailoring and Vintage Couture. She has also obtained experience working in industry with companies including Hardy Aimes of Saville Row, 2000 Tailoring Soho and HMH Couture London.
