A leading designer, art director and publisher, the School of Communication Design has been lucky to enjoy a close relationship with Hans and his magazine Baseline. For nearly 20 years Baseline has been providing students from UCA with experience, support and employment.
Hans was awarded an honorary masters degree for his services to design and the University in 2006.
Born in Würdinghausen (Sauerland), Germany in 1959, Hans went on to study in three different cities before concluding his studies in London. After a year working for a number of agencies in Amsterdam, Hans returned to London to work at Banks & Miles to work on many major corporate identity projects including IMechE, London Transport, ATypl and many higher education institutions.
In 1993 Hans went on to set up his own agency, now known as HDR Visual Communication, which boasts a variety of clients from sectors including architecture, academia, banking, jewellery, publishing and local government.
In 1995 he co-founded Bradbourne Publishing Ltd, through which the famous industry magazine Baseline is now produced (34 years running).
Hans now works as editor, art director and publisher, and with a creative team produces Baseline, one of the world's leading typographic magazines alongside a number of related small limited-edition publications.
