Dr Francis Summers is a senior lecturer in critical theory at UCA Rochester. He graduated with BA (Hons) from Wimbledon School of Art, London having studied fine art. He then went on to study an MA in Art History at the Courtauld Institute, London.
Francis completed his PhD at the Royal College of Art in 2014 with the project: Compulsions to Enjoy: Appropriation and Time Based Art. He works at UCA in the Photography department, teaching across BA and MA contextual studies. Francis is interested in thinking about ways to explore photography as both a formal image-making technology and a communicative tool that cuts across a number of fields of social and aesthetic practice.
