“Taniwha” takes monstrous figures from Maori folklore as the starting point for a new body of sculpture, video and installation centred on the complex political issues generated by Western interest in non-Western mythology. In “Taniwha,” Austin explores the links between local mythology, global inequality, and ecological disaster.

“Stopgap in Stop Motion” is an animated film using stop motion, replacement and cut out techniques (duration 4’ 40”). The work was commissioned by Stopgap Dance Company and depicts photographs of performers in an inclusive dance company that come to life.

Light Dial was a collaboration between the Rambert Dance Company, Collectress and the artists ( Evelyn Bennett and Chris Rutter) to design and make wearable sculptural costumes for the dancers and performers in a new piece of work. Fabric with original designs were printed and made into the costume pieces.
