We are pleased to have welcomed two visiting professors to our Business School for the Creative Industries, based at UCA Epsom.
Mark Waites, co-founder of advertising and design agency Mother, will join as Visiting Professor for BA (Hons) Advertising; and Carlos Sa, Executive Director at the London School of Design and Marketing, joins as Visiting Professor for BA (Hons) Fashion Management & Marketing.
Throughout his career, Mark has experienced numerous highlights. He was awarded an Emmy for an HIV awareness TV campaign created for MTV North America; won the British Television Advertising Awards’ Outstanding Contribution to the Industry distinction in 2008; and directed the music video for Fatboy Slim’s Eat Sleep Rave Repeat.
On his appointment, Mark said: “With the creative industries growing at a tremendous rate, it’s important that students are trained and educated in a way that benefits both the creative industries and the business world. A dedicated Business School for the Creative Industries presents exciting possibilities for both students and the commercial world alike, at a time when innovation, forward thinking and creativity are in such high demand by the modern workplace.”
With significant expertise in the development of distance and online learning resources, Carlos Sa was named a member of the Board of Trustees of the Open College of the Arts in January this year. He has been one of the principal drivers in the progression of both the education and the development and accreditation of marketing professionals in Portugal, and has been Executive Director at the London School of Design and Marketing since May 2016.
Carlos commented: “We are facing new and challenging times for business. It’s time to combine management with creativity. Future leaders of business and companies should embrace innovation and ideation at the same time they learn business management skills. There couldn't be a better place to make this combination than the University for the Creative Arts and its Business School for the Creative Industries.”
The first of its kind in the UK, the Business School for the Creative Industries offers a range of courses combining creative development with business approaches at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Both visiting professorship terms at the university will run for three years.
