The University for the Creative Arts (UCA) is pleased to award celebrated packaging designer Pan Hu, also known as Tiger Pan, an honorary Master of Arts. Pan is widely regarded in the industry as the “craftsman”, the most valuable packaging designer in contemporary China.
Cheryl Yu, the Director of International Studies at UCA, who nominated Pan for the award said: “Pan Hu has made an outstanding contribution to the design industry over the past 20 years, through his achievements he has become an eminent designer, recognised both regionally and internationally for his work. It is without doubt, he would be an excellent role model and inspiration to students at UCA.”

Pan graduated from the School of Fine Arts at Tsinghua University (THU) China in 1996, which is the only Chinese academy to feature three times in the Top 60 Design School and was ranked seventh in the Global Best Design School. Pan went on to establish the Pan Hu Packaging Design Laboratory in Shenzhen, and in 2017 he was honoured as one of China’s top ten packaging designers.
Further notable achievements include a commission by the United Nations Postal Administration to design its 2018 stamp for the Chinese Lunar New Year of the dog, and setting up the Pan Hu Illustration Award at the National Illustration Biennale to promote the development of Chinese illustration.
Pan is also a visiting professor for over ten prestigious universities in China and has accumulated more than one hundred awards for his design work, including thirteen Red Dots Awards, eight iF Design Awards, nine Graphis Awards, eight A’Design Awards, and fourteen Pentawards.
“Awarding Pan Hu with an honorary MA recognises both his social and economic achievements. Pan is very well placed to promote UCA in Asia, and his connections with institutions across China could lead to new partnerships and stronger recognition of UCA within the arts and design industries,” added Cheryl.
Pan Hu will receive his honorary Master of Arts at the University for the Creative Arts 2019 Awards Ceremony, which will be held at Royal Festival Hall in London on 25 June.
