UCA to begin work on multimillion pound Film and Media Centre

We are pleased to announce that we are to begin work on a multimillion pound Film and Media Centre at our Farnham campus.

Housing state-of-the-art performance and music technology, the new £4 million building will include a black box film studio, dubbing theatre, recording studio, rehearsal space and a 250 seat lecture theatre among its facilities.

Professor Bashir Makhoul, Vice-Chancellor of UCA, said: “The Film and Media Centre is incredibly exciting for UCA and I am very much looking forward to seeing it develop over the coming months. As a specialist, creative university, this important development furthers our investment in industry-standard technology and reflects our ongoing commitment to providing the best possible experience for our students.

“We are proud to include some of the industry’s most talented and well-regarded individuals among our alumni, and look forward to the Film and Media Centre becoming a thriving hub for creativity, supporting future students as they collaborate, innovate and fully realise their creative ambitions.”

Designed by architects Pascall + Watson, the lead architect for the building’s design, Samantha Brewer, is also a UCA Canterbury Architecture alumna.

As a creative arts university, UCA has built an enviable reputation in the film world, producing more than 20 Oscar and BAFTA winners. UCA alumni have contributed to global movie successes and have worked on films including Star Wars, Harry Potter and the Bond franchise.

Named in the top 21 of all UK universities by the Guardian University Guide 2018, 94.5% of UCA’s students are in employment or further study within six months of graduating.

UCA has campuses in Canterbury, Epsom, Farnham and Rochester and specialises in subject areas including Architecture & Interior Design; Animation; Crafts & Product Design; Fashion & Textiles; Film; Fine Art; Graphics & Illustration; Marketing, Management & Promotion; Media & Digital; Music; Performing Arts; and Photography.
