University for the Creative Arts alumnus Grant Orchard has been named Best Director at the 2018 Children’s BAFTA awards for his work on the hit CBeebies show Hey Duggee.
The award-winning children’s show also took the top prizes in the pre-school animation category – for the third consecutive year – and the digital category.
Hey Duggee is produced by Studio AKA and is aimed at children between the ages of two and five. Broadcast on CBeebies, the series follows the activities of character Duggee, a scoutmaster and leader of the Squirrel Club.
Each episode sees the characters learn a new skill and earn one of Duggee’s badges. Since its release in 2014, Hey Duggee, which is narrated by actor and presenter Alexander Armstrong, has recorded more than 100 episodes.
Grant has developed a strong portfolio of award-winning work since graduating from UCA Farnham, including his short film, A Morning Stroll, which won the BAFTA in 2012 and was nominated for an Oscar in the same year.
