Information for alumni and external users

UCA Alumni

As an existing student you are automatically eligible to access our Libraries, but did you know that you can keep on accessing them even after graduating?

All University for the Creative Arts Alumni Association members are entitled to use the Library for reference purposes.

There is also a membership scheme which provides members of the Alumni Association with limited borrowing rights.

General use of our collections includes:

  • Reference use of books and periodicals.
  • Access to professional Library support.
  • Access to the Library catalogue.
  • Access to black and white and colour photocopiers.

Due to licensing restrictions Alumni members are not permitted to view videos or DVDs or use any computer resources other than the Library catalogue.

If you wish to become a borrowing member, please:

  • Come to the Library once your degree has been confirmed. These details can be verified by Library staff.
  • Bring a recent passport sized photograph.
  • Fill out an Alumni Library membership application form.
  • You will then be given a Library card which you can use on subsequent visits.
  • During the first three years after you graduate, you are entitled to borrow up to 6 items at any one time ie. our standard three week loan books and Short Loan items which are kept behind the Gateway Desk. You are not able to borrow books on course reading lists.
  • At the end of the three years, you can retain your borrowing rights by paying an annual subscription of £15.
  • Liscensing restrictions prevent the loan of videos and DVDs to people who are not current UCA students or staff.
  • Standard fines apply for overdue items. If you lose any books, you will be liable for the replacement costs. We reserve the right to withdraw loan facilities if items are not brought back on time or if fines are not paid promptly.

External Users

You may be eligible to apply for Library access. Please see the tabbed areas below for specific guidance. Please note that all visitors must sign in at Reception on arrival for security purposes.

You may access our collections as reference use only. Reference use of the Library collections includes:

  • Reference use of all books and journals (excluding e-books and e-journals).
  • Access to professional library support from our staff.
  • Access to the online Library catalogue.
  • Access to black and white and colour photocopiers.

Unfortunately, due to licensing and copyright restrictions, members of the public are not permitted to view videos or DVDs, access theses and dissertations or use any computer resources other than the Library catalogue.
