Hosted by the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) to launch the Conflict and the Creative Arts Research Centre, this one-day conference explores the role artistic practice plays in transforming individuals and societies in contexts of conflict.

A diverse programme of panel debates, in conversation sessions and opportunities for discussions and artistic discovery, the conference features an esteemed line-up of international experts, practitioners, and emerging researchers. This includes UCA’s Professor Catherine Harper and Professor Bashir Makhoul and Professorial Fellow, Jonathan Harris of Birmingham City University.

Call for contributions

What do we mean by conflict and what is its relationship to artistic practice? What is the role of artistic practice in transforming individuals and societies in contexts of conflict?

If you are a student or emerging researcher, we want your submissions, from papers to videos or other artistic pieces.

Alongside the conference, we'll be hosting an exhibition. Responding to the theme of conflict, we welcome contributions from artists from all creative backgrounds, from fine art and ceramics to video, and textiles.
