Lecturer in Contemporary Jewellery Design
A widely exhibited contemporary jeweller, Lina Peterson is one of the newest members of the School of Crafts & Design at UCA Farnham. She joined in 2013. Born in Gothenburg, Sweden, Lina graduated from the University of Brighton with a first-class degree in Three-Dimensional Crafts.
Bio
Lina also holds a masters degree from the Royal College of Art in Goldsmithing, Silversmithing, Metalwork and Jewellery. A senior lecturer in Contemporary Jewellery at UCA, Lina has delivered workshops at the V&A Museum and the Royal College of Art and has previously lectured at Central Saint Martins, Sheffield Hallam, University of Brighton, University of Hertfordshire, University of Nottingham and King Saud University.
Lecturing at UCA’s BA (Hons) and MA Contemporary Jewellery courses allows Lina to share her specialist material skills including plastics, wood, ceramics and metalwork with the students.

Research statement
Lina’s research as a jeweller is practice based and consists of material explorations into wood, textiles, plastics and metal in a studio-based situation. The materials and the processes connected to them, such as carving, punching and stitching, are constantly influencing the work. The output is mainly exhibition based.

Commissions:
Winner of the Jerwood Contemporary Makers Award in 2010, Lina has held a number of residencies and has been selected to show at the prestigious Schmuck exhibition that takes place annually in Munich. Her work has also been exhibited at COLLECT and she was one of 21 selected UK makers for the Crafts Council’s Exhibition showcasing contemporary craft during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Lina’s work is held in public collections including the UK Craft Council Collection, the Rohsska Design Museum, Sweden and the Royal College of Art. Her work is exhibited across the globe, including USA, Germany, Australia, Turkey, Scandinavia and Japan and has been published widely in the sector.
In addition to making work for exhibitions and gallery contexts Lina works on collaborative projects with fashion labels as well as on site-specific projects. These include a museumaker commission working with the University of Nottingham’s Museum of Archaeology, for whom she produced an installation and travelling exhibition titled ‘Imagined Objects of Desire’ and a Craftspace commission and participatory project.
