Dr Adetola Adekunle leads our MSc and MA Human Resources Management for the Creative Industries courses at UCA Epsom.

Adetola has previously held academic roles at Northumbria University London Campus, University of Plymouth/GSM London partnership and University of Gloucestershire.

Before joining academia, Adetola worked in various capacities in financial organisations including Student Loans Company and Oceanic Bank Plc now Ecobank Transnational Inc and is an academic member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development(Academic MCIPD), Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), Member of the Chartered Management Institute(MCMI) and an active participant of the University Forum for Human Resource Development(UFHRD) Conferences.

Adetola has a PhD Business and Management with focus on Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Development in SMEs from the University of Gloucestershire as well as an MSc International Business Management from University of East London.

She is also a Director of Brave hearts a community interest company charity in the North East of England aimed at inspiring women and family empowerment in the local community. This also includes voluntary advisory roles for a number of creative small business entrepreneurs to manage employee workforce in an effective way especially given the ever-evolving contemporary changing world of work due to various factors such as Generational changes, 'Gig economy' and disruptive technologies.

Research statement

Adetola’s research interests are in organisational behaviour and human resource management/development subject contexts with focus on human capability development through employee training and development, entrepreneurial ethical leadership and employee organisational identification process constructs in SMEs.

She is currently working on a comparative study of women and the impact of Covid-19 pandemic on their work-life balance.

Research supervision

Adetola is interested in research areas around employee capability development; employee motivation; employee engagement; L&D and ethical leadership in entrepreneurial organisations as well as organisational identity and identification processes in SMEs.
