Animation, coding and games are some of the fastest-growing emergent industries in the world, and our BA (Hons) Animation course at UCA Farnham is one of the oldest programmes of its kind in Europe.
Animation is a richly layered process – stories, scripts and concept art must be developed, characters and environments designed, and storyboards drawn and re-drawn. CGI is a particularly complex process; assets must be modelled, textured, lit, rigged, animated, edited and rendered, to then be composited and graded in post-production. Outputs range from quirky animated shorts to art-house visualisations, commercial commissions to moving personal stories, poetic documentaries and slapstick comedies.
You’ll be able to explore animation and animated filmmaking through a range of techniques, or delve into the exciting aspect of video games, looking at the entrepreneurial indie attitude that flourishes in the industry, and how you can join that movement.

"I was drawn to the BA (Hons) Animation course at UCA because of its breadth. It allowed students the creative freedom and facilities to explore and specialise. Being surrounded by people doing so many different things and producing such a varied body of work was truly inspiring and keeps your mind open to the endless possibilities of animation. This was coupled with knowledgeable tutors, inspiring guest lecturers and plenty of practical lessons and advice to inform both your creative and professional processes. I now work for a London-based design studio producing animations, interactive apps and installations for a variety of interesting clients including the British Library and the Science Museum. "
"Looking back at my time at UCA, from a creative perspective it was the best experience possible. The sheer scope of skills that we were learning was just unbelievable - visualising, 3D modelling, life drawing, storytelling, staging, presenting, and publishing. After graduation, I started an internship as a Product Designer at The Marketing Store Worldwide, and I was then offered a full time position. I've worked on promotional toys for McDonalds’ Happy Meal and Cereal Partners Worldwide, as well as licenses for Pokémon, Hello Kitty, and Transformers. Thanks to what I learned at UCA, I'm now able to make a living from my passion."
