Course overview:

Our BA (Hons) Sports Fashion & Branding course offers a range of specialist facilities for you to develop your projects and skills. These include a fully equipped professional CAD/ Mac and PC suite, design studios, digital textile printing studio, and manufacturing and photographic studios.

Working in a friendly and supportive environment, you’ll be taught by a diverse range of industry professionals who are active in the fashion sports and branding industries.

The course explores the process of design and branding with consideration to the ever-changing sportswear industry. We encourage a well-rounded approach to research, design and branding, and the main method of teaching for this course will be through a range of lectures, workshops, seminars and tutorials.

Year 1 will see you developing your drawing and CAD skills, gaining an understanding of product technologies, product creativity, marketing, branding, and communication.

In Year 2, there is a marked emphasis on industry practice through live projects, professional practice and industry placement.

The final year will see you undertake a major project, from concept development to product design and
realisation, where you’ll be required to contextualize your practice along the way.

If you choose to produce a collection or range of designs, you will have the opportunity to work directly with manufacturing companies to have samples made in factories.

With our BA (Hons) Sports Fashion & Branding course you’ll gain the appropriate skills and technical know-how required to work in a range of roles, such as a sportswear designer, sports brand manager or consultant.

Entry requirements

Along with your portfolio, the standard entry requirements* for this course are:

One of the following:

  • 112 new UCAS tariff points (equivalent to 280 old UCAS tariff points), see accepted qualifications
  • Pass at Foundation Diploma in Art & Design (Level 3 or 4)
  • Distinction, Merit, Merit at BTEC Extended Diploma
  • Merit at UAL Extended Diploma
  • 112 new UCAS tariff points from an accredited Access to Higher Education Diploma in appropriate subject.

And four GCSE passes at grade A*-C and/or grade 4-9 including English (or Functional Skills English/Key Skills Communication Level 2).

Other relevant and equivalent Level 3 UK and international qualifications are considered on an individual basis, and we encourage students from diverse educational backgrounds to apply.

*We occasionally make offers which are lower than the standard entry criteria, to students who have faced difficulties that have affected their performance and who were expected to achieve higher results. We consider the strength of our applicants’ portfolios, as well as their grades -  in these cases, a strong portfolio is especially important.

Your portfolio

We may invite you to attend an Applicant Day and bring along your portfolio for assessment. This should include drawings, sketches and final designs, along with examples of how you research your ideas, such as photographs, models, maquettes and material samples.
