Pat Francis

Pat Francis is a lecturer on the BA (Hons) Fashion Media & Promotion course at UCA Rochester. She has worked at the University for the Creative Arts since 1989 when it was the Kent Institute of Art and Design.

She has worked as a sessional lecturer for the Fashion Media & Promotion course since its inception in 2003, but also worked for other fashion courses, as well as Illustration, Graphics and Foundation. Paralleling her teaching of research skills, reflective journals and writing, she was a Dyslexia Tutor for a wide range of students.

Pat has freelanced at a number of other universities including LCF, Norwich, Staffordshire and Southampton Solent.

She started at KIAD as the College Librarian and prior to that had been Deputy and Media Librarian at Ravensbourne, and prior to that, Media Librarian for the History of Art Department at North Staffordshire Polytechnic (now Staffordshire University).

Pat’s first professional work was in the theatre and running her own puppet company.

Pat graduated from the University of Birmingham with a degree in Drama and Theatre Arts. She is also a qualified librarian and dyslexia tutor.

Pat worked extensively with WRITING PAD (Writing Purposefully in Art and Design which was a HEFCE Strand 4 initiative.  She presented case studies and represented UCA (then UCCA) at conferences and ran and chaired workshops for several years.

She has run several workshops for ADM HEA – at Falmouth, Stoke, London and Brighton. She has undertaken extensive teacher training sessions with  UCA, cltad and ADM HEA.

She also worked with ADSHE (Association for Dyslexia Specialists in Higher Education.

Pat has peer reviewed G James Daichendt”s Artist Scholar: Reflections on Writing and Research, published by Intellect.
