David joined the University staff in 2014 following 30 years in the Film & Media industry. He brings a wide knowledge of industry practice in support of several courses, including Film Production, Journalism, Digital Film & Screen Arts, Media and Communications and Acting and Performance – relating and integrating the use of camera technologies and working practices. His diverse background enables a strongly practical related approach in supporting the academic teams, and ensuring students understand and embrace current and emerging technologies for when they move into the working arena.
David obtained a BA(Hons) 1st in Film & Television Production as a mature student in 2010, and has focused his future in supporting education in the field of media technologies.
With the rapidly increasing influence and intrusion of digital media in all aspects of society, and particularly the rapidly changing technologies both behind and in front of the camera, David works closely with cinematography students in guiding development of creative thinking, mastering digital language and relating this to practical outcomes, including working closely with Acting students, as they develop an understanding of the “intrusive” nature of film-making and contemporary performance.
